QUOTE
There is a growing identity crisis in the Linux community. In simplest terms, is Ubuntu taking the spotlight away from other deserving Linux distributions? While some people might feel that Linux is being seen as a single distribution, the Ubuntu developers and the companies that support Ubuntu are not doing anything that cannot be duplicated.

Similar Distributions: Without High Adoption Rate. I don't care if your distro is a non-profit or directly sponsored by a for-profit entity. Without dedicated individuals addressing more than mere development, you will see what has happened to other distributions continue in Ubuntu's wake.

> Mandriva 2009
Posted by mystified - 15-05-08 10:26 - 0 comments
With Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring out the door, the first steps toward Mandriva Linux 2009 are in progress. Ideas are being collected on this wiki page and Bugzilla is open for suggestions and ideas.

A number of items are in the wish list for kernel and hardware support. The ML 2009 kernel will use libata, the one item already marked as complete. Other wishes include an installed and enabled kerneloops package, full support for Lenovo Thinkpads T60/T61 (and T62 in the future) (with all the bells, whistles, drivers, hotkeys, LEDs, etc. working), making Xen work properly (or dropping it), and patches for kernel-level mode setting.

Posted by dexter11 - 10-05-08 14:04 - 0 comments
There have been rumors since last year that Valve may be serious about porting Source games to Linux after Valve Software began seeking a senior software engineer with the responsibility of porting Windows-based games to the Linux platform.

Valve Software has yet to officially announce Linux clients for any of its software, but Phoronix have received information confirming that Valve is indeed porting its very popular Source engine to the Linux platform.

The rest of the article is here.

> About Us
Mandrakeusers Board (now MandrivaUsers) was the original creation of Tom Berger, an employee of Mandriva and a highly respected authority on Linux. Few people can claim to be a Linux "guru" but Tom Berger certainly deserves the title. Tom wrote volumes of tutorials on Linux, and his "plain English" approach made it a lot easier for so called "Linux newbies" to understand. All of his tutorials and tips are stored on this board. After Tom moved on to pastures new, a handful of active members took over the running of the board, and created a new MandrivaUsers Board.

Though we are linked to Mandriva and bear their name, this board is operated independently of Mandriva. Spreading our wings, we now support and offer technical help on all Linux Distro's.
